Cultivating a Growth Mindset: Unlock Your Full Potential

Discover practical strategies to cultivate a growth mindset and unlock your full potential. Learn how to embrace challenges, turn setbacks into opportunities, and thrive in all areas of your life. Explore actionable tips that will help you foster resilience, curiosity, and continuous personal development.

Cultivating a Growth Mindset: Unlock Your Full Potential

In a constantly evolving world, the mindset with which we approach challenges and opportunities can define our journey. The concept of a growth mindset, popularized by psychologist Carol Dweck, revolves around the belief that abilities and intelligence can be developed through dedication, hard work, and resilience. Embracing a growth mindset can empower you to thrive not just in your career but in every aspect of life. Here’s how to cultivate this transformative mindset and unlock your full potential.

Understanding the Growth Mindset

A growth mindset contrasts sharply with a fixed mindset. While a fixed mindset sees abilities as static and unchangeable, a growth mindset views challenges as opportunities to grow and learn. This perspective shift can dramatically influence your personal and professional life, fostering a sense of curiosity, perseverance, and resilience.

Embrace Challenges

Challenges are stepping stones to growth. Rather than shying away from difficult tasks, face them head-on. Each challenge you encounter is an opportunity to stretch your abilities and expand your knowledge. The next time you face a daunting task, remind yourself that growth happens outside your comfort zone.

Starting with small challenges and gradually taking on more complex ones. Celebrate your efforts, regardless of the outcome, to reinforce the habit of tackling difficulties. For example, if public speaking intimidates you, begin by speaking up in small meetings and gradually work your way up to larger presentations.

Learn from Setbacks

Failures and setbacks are inevitable, but they are not indicators of your limitations. Instead, view them as learning experiences. Analyze what went wrong, extract lessons, and apply them moving forward. This approach transforms failures into valuable feedback and opportunities for growth.

When experiencing a setback, take time to journal your thoughts. Reflect on what you’ve learned and how you can improve. This practice not only helps in processing emotions but also in strategizing future actions. For instance, if a project didn't go as planned, jot down what you could have done differently and how you will apply these insights to your next endeavor.

Cultivate Curiosity

Curiosity is the fuel for a growth mindset. It encourages you to explore new ideas, ask questions, and seek knowledge beyond your current understanding. Embracing a curious outlook keeps your mind agile and open to new possibilities.

Dedicating time each week to learn something new, Which could be reading a book, taking a course, or engaging in a hobby. Constant learning keeps your mind agile and open. Consider joining a book club or taking up a new language to continuously challenge and expand your cognitive abilities.

Celebrate Effort and Progress

Acknowledge and celebrate the effort you put into tasks, not just the results. This reinforces the idea that hard work and perseverance are valuable, irrespective of the immediate outcome. Recognizing progress, no matter how small, can boost your motivation and confidence.

Create a progress journal. Note down your goals, efforts, and achievements. Reflect on your journey and appreciate how far you’ve come. For instance, if you're learning a new skill like playing an instrument, document your practice sessions and small victories to keep track of your progress and stay motivated.

Surround Yourself with Growth-Minded People

The company you keep influences your mindset. Surround yourself with individuals who inspire you, challenge you, and support your growth. Engaging with like-minded people fosters an environment of continuous improvement and positive reinforcement.

Tip: Join communities, clubs, or groups that focus on personal development. Engage in discussions, share experiences, and learn from others. Whether it's a professional network or a local meetup group, being part of a community can provide valuable insights and encouragement.

Thriving with a Growth Mindset

Adopting a growth mindset is a transformative journey. It allows you to navigate life’s ups and downs with resilience and optimism. Practicing self-compassion, setting realistic goals, and seeking constructive feedback are additional ways to ensure you thrive.

Tip: Practice self-compassion by treating yourself with kindness, especially during challenging times. Set realistic, achievable goals to maintain focus and motivation. Seek feedback from trusted sources to gain new perspectives and continue improving. For instance, if you're working on a major project, break it down into manageable steps and celebrate each milestone to stay motivated and on track.

Cultivating a growth mindset is an ongoing process that requires commitment and practice. By embracing challenges, learning from setbacks, cultivating curiosity, celebrating effort, and surrounding yourself with growth-minded individuals, you pave the way to unlock your full potential. Revamp Your Kitchen for Healthier Living: A Guide to Safer Kitchenware Choices

Transform your kitchen into a hub of health and vitality with our expert guide to revamping your culinary space. Discover how to swap out harmful plastics, Teflon-coated pans, and toxic cleaning supplies for safer, healthier alternatives.

Healthy Kitchenware and Cleaning Supplies

In the pursuit of a healthier lifestyle, the kitchen plays a pivotal role. It's not just about the food we consume but also the environment in which it's prepared. Unfortunately, many conventional kitchen products harbor hidden toxins that can seep into our food and impact our health over time. From plastic containers to Teflon-coated pans and harsh cleaning supplies, our kitchen choices may inadvertently expose us to harmful chemicals. However, by making conscious decisions to swap out these items for healthier alternatives, we can create a safer haven for our culinary endeavors. Let's delve into the realm of kitchenware and explore how to spruce up your kitchen for a healthier lifestyle.

Understanding the Harmful Chemicals Lurking in Your Kitchen: Before diving into replacements, it's crucial to understand the potential risks associated with common kitchen items:

plastics

Plastic containers and utensils are ubiquitous in modern kitchens, but they come with hidden dangers. Many plastics contain bisphenol A (BPA) and phthalates, which are known endocrine disruptors. These chemicals can mimic hormones in the body, leading to a range of adverse health effects. Research has linked BPA and phthalate exposure to:

  • Hormonal Disruption: BPA and phthalates can interfere with the endocrine system, disrupting the production, release, transport, metabolism, and elimination of hormones. This disruption can lead to hormonal imbalances, affecting reproductive health, thyroid function, and even metabolism.

  • Increased Cancer Risk: Studies have shown associations between BPA exposure and an increased risk of certain cancers, including breast cancer and prostate cancer. Phthalates have also been linked to an elevated risk of breast cancer and reproductive cancers in both men and women.

  • Developmental and Reproductive Problems: Prenatal exposure to BPA and phthalates has been associated with adverse outcomes in children, including altered development of the brain, reproductive organs, and immune system. These chemicals may also contribute to infertility, miscarriages, and birth defects.

Medical studies have provided compelling evidence of the harmful effects of BPA and phthalates on human health. For example, a study published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism found that urinary levels of BPA were associated with an increased risk of obesity and insulin resistance in children. Similarly, research published in Environmental Health Perspectives has linked prenatal exposure to phthalates with impaired neurodevelopment in infants.

Teflon-Coated Pans

  1. Non-stick cookware, often coated with polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), commonly known as Teflon, poses potential health risks due to the release of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) during cooking. PFOA exposure has been linked to:

    • Thyroid Disorders: Studies have shown that PFOA exposure may disrupt thyroid hormone levels, leading to hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) or other thyroid disorders. This can result in symptoms such as fatigue, weight gain, and cognitive impairment.

    • Liver Damage: PFOA has been associated with liver toxicity and damage in animal studies. Chronic exposure to PFOA may increase the risk of liver cancer and other hepatic conditions in humans.

    • Developmental Delays: Prenatal exposure to PFOA has been linked to developmental delays in children, including delayed growth and neurobehavioral problems. Children born to mothers with higher levels of PFOA in their blood may exhibit deficits in attention, memory, and motor skills.

Numerous epidemiological studies and animal experiments have provided evidence of the adverse health effects of PFOA exposure. For instance, a study published in Environmental Health Perspectives found a significant association between PFOA exposure and decreased fetal growth in pregnant women. Additionally, research published in Environmental Science & Technology reported elevated PFOA levels in individuals living near manufacturing facilities, highlighting the environmental persistence of this chemical and its potential health impacts.

    Toxic Cleaning Supplies

Conventional kitchen cleaning products often contain harsh chemicals such as ammonia, chlorine bleach, and synthetic fragrances, which can pose serious health risks:

    • Respiratory Irritation: Inhalation of fumes from chemical cleaners can irritate the respiratory tract, leading to symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath. Individuals with asthma or other respiratory conditions may experience exacerbated symptoms when exposed to these chemicals.

    • Allergic Reactions: Many chemical cleaners contain allergens and irritants that can trigger allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. Skin contact with these products may cause rashes, itching, or dermatitis, while inhalation can induce allergic rhinitis or asthma attacks.

    • Environmental Pollution: Chemical cleaners contribute to indoor air pollution and can contaminate waterways when rinsed down the drain. Ingredients like phosphates and surfactants can disrupt aquatic ecosystems and harm aquatic organisms.

Numerous studies have documented the adverse health effects of exposure to household cleaning products. For example, a study published in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine found that occupational exposure to cleaning agents was associated with an increased risk of asthma and decline in lung function among professional cleaners. Similarly, research published in Environmental Health Perspectives has linked prenatal exposure to common household cleaners with childhood respiratory problems and wheezing.

Boost Your Exercise Routine: Proven Strategies for Lasting Fitness Success

Unlock the keys to a successful exercise routine! Learn how to reignite your motivation with enjoyable activities, self-belief, and social support. Read now and start your journey to a healthier you!

As we pass the initial surge of New Year's resolutions, it's common for many individuals to find themselves falling off the exercise bandwagon. The enthusiasm that kick-started their fitness journey wanes, leaving them feeling disheartened and demotivated. However, all hope is not lost! With the right strategies and mindset, anyone can rejuvenate their exercise routine and achieve lasting success. we'll delve into the importance of enjoyable activity, self-efficacy, and social support in maintaining a successful exercise regimen, supported by studies and statistics.

Embrace Enjoyable Activity

One of the fundamental keys to sustaining an exercise routine is engaging in activities that you genuinely enjoy. Research has consistently shown that individuals are more likely to adhere to exercise programs when they find them enjoyable and personally rewarding. According to a study published in the Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology, participants who reported higher levels of enjoyment during physical activity were more likely to maintain consistent exercise habits over time.

Moreover, variety plays a crucial role in enjoyment. Incorporating diverse activities, such as dancing, hiking, cycling, or group fitness classes, can keep your routine fresh and exciting. Experiment with different forms of exercise until you discover what resonates best with you. Remember, the most effective workout is the one you look forward to doing.

Cultivate Self-Efficacy

Self-efficacy, or one's belief in their ability to accomplish specific tasks, is a powerful predictor of exercise adherence. Individuals with high self-efficacy are more likely to overcome obstacles, persist in the face of challenges, and ultimately achieve their fitness goals. A study published in the Journal of Applied Sport Psychology found that individuals with greater self-efficacy demonstrated higher levels of exercise adherence and performance.

To enhance your self-efficacy, set realistic goals that align with your abilities and interests. Break down your goals into manageable steps, celebrating each milestone along the way. Additionally, focus on building confidence through positive self-talk and affirmations. Remind yourself of past accomplishments and the strength you possess to overcome any setbacks. By nurturing your self-belief, you'll empower yourself to stay committed to your exercise routine despite obstacles.

Harness the Power of Social Support

Social support is a cornerstone of maintaining a successful exercise routine, providing encouragement, accountability, and camaraderie. This support is not only crucial for individuals but also extends to families, particularly parents who are striving to balance their own fitness goals with the well-being of their children.

For parents, having a robust support network is essential, not only for their own motivation but also for fostering a healthy lifestyle for their children. Studies have shown that parental behavior significantly influences children's attitudes and habits regarding physical activity. When parents prioritize exercise and demonstrate enthusiasm for fitness, they set a powerful example for their children to follow.

Moreover, parents who have access to social support networks, whether through friends, family, or community resources, are better equipped to navigate the challenges of maintaining an active lifestyle amidst the demands of parenthood. Whether it's coordinating childcare to attend a workout class, sharing fitness tips with fellow parents, or participating in family-friendly activities that promote physical activity, social support plays a pivotal role in helping parents stay on track with their exercise routines.

Furthermore, involving children in physical activities can strengthen family bonds and create lasting memories. Whether it's going for a bike ride together, playing in the park, or engaging in sports as a family, these shared experiences not only promote physical health but also nurture emotional connections and reinforce the importance of leading an active lifestyle.

By prioritizing social support for both themselves and their children, parents can create a supportive environment that fosters a lifelong commitment to health and fitness. Together, families can celebrate achievements, overcome obstacles, and cultivate a culture of wellness that benefits every member. So, reach out to your support network, involve your children in your fitness journey, and embark on this adventure toward a healthier, happier family.

As we draw upon the insights uncovered in our journey through revitalizing exercise routines, it's evident that success hinges not just on personal effort, but also on the interconnectedness fostered by supportive communities. By prioritizing enjoyable activities, nurturing self-belief, and embracing social connections, you're laying the foundation for a sustainable and fulfilling fitness journey.

Mastering Resolutions: Your Guide to Setting and Succeeding at Goals

Unlock success with proven strategies! Explore how specific goals, detailed planning, implementation intentions, and habit formation, backed by research from Locke, Latham, Gollwitzer, and Lally, drive resolution achievement. Discover actionable tips for goal setting and sustaining progress. Your guide to turning resolutions into accomplishments!

At the start of a new year, resolutions brim with promise, yet many struggle to uphold them. Understanding the science of goal-setting and implementing proven strategies can significantly boost success rates. Let’s explore the secrets to setting and conquering your resolutions.

The Power of Specific Goals

Specific goals are the backbone of successful resolutions. Research by psychologist Locke and Latham underscores the importance of defining clear objectives. For instance, instead of a broad resolution to "eat healthier," specify actions like incorporating a serving of vegetables into every meal, reducing sugary snacks to once a week, or preparing homemade meals four times a week. Specificity enhances motivation and focus, leading to better results.

Plan it Out

Breaking down resolutions into manageable steps is akin to creating a roadmap. Consider the resolution of "learning a new language." Begin by researching language apps, scheduling 20-minute daily practice sessions, finding a language exchange group, and setting achievable weekly learning goals. Detailed planning eases the overwhelm of larger goals and provides a clear path forward.

Implement with Intentions

Implementation intentions, as studied by Gollwitzer, involve crafting detailed plans for goal execution. For instance, if your resolution is to exercise regularly, create a specific plan: "Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 7 a.m., I’ll jog in the park." This approach solidifies commitment by establishing the exact conditions for the desired behavior, increasing the likelihood of follow-through.

Habit Formation for the Win

Habits play a pivotal role in sustaining resolutions. Consider a resolution to "read more books." Start by dedicating 15 minutes nightly to reading before bed. Over time, this consistent practice becomes a habit, making it easier to accomplish your overarching resolution without solely relying on willpower. Lally and colleagues' research highlights the significance of repetition in forming lasting habits.

Mastering Resolutions: Your Guide to Setting and Succeeding at Goals

Tips and Hacks for Success

Start Small: Begin with achievable milestones to build confidence.

Focus on One Goal: Concentrating your efforts prevents overwhelm.

Track Progress: Monitor and celebrate your advancements.

Find Support: Share your goals for encouragement and accountability.

Learn from Setbacks: Resilience is key; setbacks are natural.

Reward Yourself: Celebrate milestones to stay motivated.

Scientific Backing

The strategies discussed are rooted in well-established psychological research, emphasizing their effectiveness in achieving and sustaining resolutions:

  1. Locke and Latham's Goal-Setting Theory: This theory, extensively researched, highlights the significance of setting specific and challenging goals. Locke and Latham found that setting clear, measurable, and achievable goals increases motivation and performance. Their work has been pivotal in understanding how goal specificity influences behavior and drives success.

  2. Gollwitzer's Implementation Intentions: Professor Peter Gollwitzer’s studies shed light on implementation intentions, indicating that specifying the "when," "where," and "how" of goal pursuit significantly enhances commitment and action. It's not just about setting goals but also having clear plans for their execution, as Gollwitzer’s research demonstrates.

  3. Lally and Habit Formation: Research by Phillippa Lally and her colleagues explored habit formation in everyday life. Their findings emphasize the importance of repetition in forming habits. The study indicates that consistent actions, such as daily reading or regular exercise, gradually become ingrained habits, reducing the reliance on willpower and making behavior change more sustainable.

These studies collectively support the notion that specific goal-setting, detailed planning, implementation intentions, and habit formation are fundamental pillars in achieving and maintaining resolutions.

Resolutions aren’t mere wishes; they’re commitments to growth. Armed with the science-backed strategies of goal-setting, planning, and habit formation, you’re equipped to turn resolutions into achievements.

Remember, progress trumps perfection. Embrace the journey, learn from setbacks, and celebrate every step forward. Here’s to a year of transforming resolutions into realities!

Life is an intricate tapestry woven with threads of uncertainty, spontaneity, and constant change. It's a journey that rarely follows a linear path. In this article, we'll delve deeper into how routines can be more than just schedules; they can be our guiding lights through life's maze, helping us with the frame work to confront realities, embrace change, and find fulfillment.

A Routine as Your Compass

It goes beyond being a mere schedule; it's a warm invitation to not only acknowledge but fully embrace the multifaceted realities of our lives. Life, like the seasons, is diverse and ever-changing, and routines act as the stabilizing force amidst this constant flux. It adapts to these changing dynamics, allowing you to find balance and prioritize self-care, ultimately enabling you to fully savor the magic of life's ever-unfolding journey, even as the festivities have yet to begin.

Perfect Timing for Reflection

As the summer's warmth gives way to the cool embrace of fall, it's a poignant time to reevaluate our routines. Just as nature sheds its leaves, we can shed the clutter from our lives. This seasonal transition serves as a natural reminder to reflect on what's working and what isn't. This time of year also lends itself to reflection with as the franticness of The holiday season

Clearing Out Clutter for Growth

Decluttering isn't limited to cleaning out closets; it extends to clearing digital, emotional, and mental spaces. It's about letting go of physical possessions, breaking free from the shackles of digital distractions, and unburdening ourselves from emotional baggage. Clearing these spaces is like creating an empty canvas for personal growth and self-improvement.

Decluttering is a transformative journey that goes far beyond tidying up physical spaces. While organizing your closets and getting rid of items you no longer need is a great start, don't stop there. Extend this process to various aspects of your life for holistic growth. Here are some tips to help you get started:

  • Physical Decluttering: Begin by systematically going through your belongings. Separate items into categories: keep, donate, recycle, or discard. Remember, the goal is not minimalism but mindful ownership. Keep things that truly add value to your life, and let go of what no longer serves a purpose.

  • Digital Detox: Our digital lives can be just as cluttered as our physical spaces. Sort through your digital files, unsubscribe from unnecessary email subscriptions, and organize your apps. Create a clear and efficient digital environment that supports your goals and reduces distractions.

  • Emotional Unburdening: Emotions can accumulate like clutter too. Take time to reflect on past experiences and unresolved emotions. Consider practices like journaling, meditation, or talking to a therapist to process and release emotional baggage. It's essential for personal growth and mental clarity.

  • Mental Organization: Our minds can become cluttered with excessive thoughts, worries, and to-dos. Implement mindfulness techniques to declutter your mind. Prioritize tasks, make lists, and practice relaxation exercises to create mental space for creativity and personal development.

Clearing these various spaces is like creating an empty canvas for personal growth and self-improvement. It allows you to let go of the past, embrace the present, and open the door to a brighter and more fulfilling future. Remember, decluttering is not a one-time task; it's an ongoing practice that can lead to profound personal growth and a more intentional way of living.

Embracing Flexibility in Routines

The beauty of routines lies in their ability to provide structure while allowing for adaptability. Routines shouldn't be rigid laws but rather flexible guidelines that enable us to navigate life's surprises with grace and resilience. They're the wind in our sails, not the chains on our wrists.

Prioritizing Self-Care

At the heart of every fulfilling routine is the deliberate allocation of time for self-care. Prioritizing activities that nurture our minds and bodies, such as meditation, journaling, exercise, and self-care rituals, is akin to tending to the garden of our well-being. By putting ourselves first, we ensure that we're better equipped to handle life's challenges and joys.

Habit Stacking for Efficiency

Imagine building a tower of small, positive habits, one atop the other. That's the essence of habit stacking. It's a strategy that harnesses the power of compounding efforts, where tiny changes in our daily routines can yield remarkable results over time. Think of a habit you already love and is a consistent daily habit -like your morning coffee, or brushing your teeth. Can you layer or stack in taking your vitamins at this time, or can you jot down three things that you are grateful for while waiting for you coffee to be made?

It has been shown to be effective to layer in new tasks, goals, on top of the consistent aspects of your routine that you already do daily. By stacking in a new habit onto normal aspects of your day will help develop a positive relationship with your new goal and make the transition more seamless

Accountability and Effective Time Management

To maintain consistency in your routines, having an accountability system is key. Whether it's a trusted friend, a journal, or a specialized app, accountability keeps us on track and motivated. Additionally, effective time management, including a mindful examination of your smartphone usage, allows us to optimize our daily activities for greater productivity and fulfillment.

Protecting Your Peace and Mindset

Guarding your peace of mind is a fundamental element of a fulfilling life. This means being vigilant about the relationships and influences in your life. Sometimes, it's necessary to remove toxic relationships and prioritize your own mental and emotional well-being.

2022 New Years Intentions Templates: For Focus And Clarity

Carving out time to concentrate on how and where you want to spend your time and what goals you want to set for 2022 helps your intentions be more actionable and less overwhelming.

As 2022 Arrives, there is a familiar sense of excitement as a new year approaches, yet anxiety can be present as the current year comes to a close. We have noticed some of this end-of-year anxiety can be due to pressure to reach all current goals while planning new goals for the following year.

To take the pressure off, we created templates to help highlight what was and wasn't working in 2021 and where you might want your focus and intention to instead flow in 2022. Carving out time to concentrate on how and where you want to spend your time and what goals you want to set for 2022 helps your intentions be more actionable and less overwhelming. Breaking down goals into steps makes it possible to see how you can include new habits into your everyday routine, or where and how you will need to carve out time for yourself to take action on the version of yourself you are envisioning.

At Ever Green Living We Wish Everyone a Beautiful Love, Soulful, Healthy, Wealthy, Joy-Filled 2022! Thank You For Being Part Of The Ever Green Living Community. We Are So Incredibly Grateful To Each And Everyone Of You!

Here Is A Poem (From Poet, Artist, And Author Tiffany Nicole found At Instagram's @lavenderthebook) That We Felt Embodied The Transition Of 2021 To 2022:

"Begin To Envision Everything That Happens -or Doesn't- As A Step Forward In The Most Beautiful Direction Possible For Your Life. And With Time, You Will Clearly See -That It Is So."

EGL’S 12 Days Of Gratitude Challenge

At Ever Green Living, we wanted to help you positively finish this year and head into 2022 feeling grounded and harmonious in alignment with yourself. So that is why we came up with the 12 Days Of Gratitude.

This time of the year can feel emotionally polarizing with the collective push of the holidays, the end of year wrap-up, while also heading into new beginnings. There can be excitement, stress, extra planning, reflection, goal setting, anxiety. But Honestly, as we said, feelings and emotions this time of year are a mixed bag of nuts.

To support ourselves getting through this seasonal roller coaster, we have found that a practice of gratitude is key. Yes, that practice, mindset, meditation, and journaling style that many have heard about for years. Gratitude Is Not A Practice About Perfection Or Bypassing Feelings. Gratitude Is A Practice That Allows Us “Space To Notice”. Now we know that this may seem too simple of an answer, or something that you don't have time for in your schedule. All arguments we have used and understand.

There is a reason, though, why so many of us are aware of gratitude's importance. It is one of those simple habits that can help us see beyond the micro of our everyday lives. Instead, gratitude can expand our lens to a broader perception letting us notice in new awareness..

Starting a new habit, practice, or routine on our own can be a setup that is not as successful as when you do it with or in a group.

At Ever Green Living, we wanted to help you positively finish this year and head into 2022 feeling grounded and harmonious in alignment with yourself. So that is why we came up with the 12 Days Of Gratitude. We are providing prompts each day to help you check in with yourself and to help shift our mindsets to one of "Space Of Noticing."

Here is why we love a practice of gratitude and its benefits:

  • Boosts The Immune System

  • Improves Overall Mental Health

  • Helps Shift Perspective

  • Improved Relationships

  • Increased Optimism

  • Boost In Confidence

  • Increase Of Productivity

  • Amplifies Overall Sense Of Joy

  • Allows You To More Fully Experience And Be Present For Elevative Emotions When They Naturally Arise

We Will Offer Daily Prompts And Inspiration To Help You Start A Gratitude Practice Of Your Own, So You Can Go Through The Holidays And Into The New Year Feeling Aligned, Grounded, Supported, With An Elevated Perspective.

4 Tips For Seasonally Changing Your Closet: Tips To Having Your Closet Be Functional, Sustainable, And Fun

As the temperature changes, many of us get excited about the Possibilities of changing up our wardrobe and what we wear daily to more seasonal clothes. However, knowing what clothes should stay or be transitioned out can be tricky. HERE ARE OUR TIPS AND TRICKS TO SUSTAINABLY MAKING YOUR CLOSET FUNCTIONAL AND FUN FOR YOU.

As the temperature changes, many of us get excited about the Possibilities of changing up our wardrobe and what we wear daily to more seasonal clothes. However, knowing what clothes should stay or be transitioned out can be tricky, especially in climates like California (EGL headquarters), where the seasons don't often provide severity in differing changes.

The other obstacle that has been highlighted is the issue of sustainability concerning our wardrobes which many of us fumble with in relation when knowing what to wear, especially when your closet doesn't suit your needs anymore. So to help you navigate wardrobe or closet changes in a more sustainable way, we have sorted through some of our favorite tips and sustainable brands we love to help you steer into a wardrobe you love and clothes that will last you.

Organize

Getting a clear picture of what is in your closet and drawers is critical in getting a clear picture of what you have. This task can seem daunting at first, but that is also a clue to how you may feel about your wardrobe as a whole. Looking at all your clothing items also can be fun because we have all had that item that got lost behind a drawer or mashed up behind some other clothes. Seeing your clothes all together can help you find ways to restyle a piece in another way. For example, we love the trend of a spaghetti strap maxi dress typically worn in summer shift into winter by being paired with a heavy knit sweater and sinched in at the waist with a belt. By reshopping and styling your closet, you can not only find newer pairings for your clothes, but you can also store away what you are not going to use for the season. Seasonally storing away some clothes allows you to see what you have and varying ways of styling creatively.

When and If you decide that some clothes are ready to be passed on online consignment shops are an easy way to make money off your clothes without having to personally sell them. ThredUp and The Real Real two places that we like to peruse around and sell items on, there are so many sites to choose from but these two make it super easy.

Know Your Wardrobe Issue

Having organized all clothing items will help you see what your wardrobes needs are. Try to expand on ordinary clothes complaints many of have. Statements like "I have nothing to wear"; notice if there are particular times, places, occasions, seasons when you feel you have nothing to wear. Another often-used statement we have all probably said from time to time is, "I don't like my clothes." Again what is it that you do not like about your clothes? Is the fit, style, color palette, size, material, lack of particular pieces, not a fit for your lifestyle, wanting more structured or tailored pieces? Narrowing down your needs will help you not needlessly buy clothes that might only add to the volume of what you have in your closet and not your overall wardrobe.

Being honest with ourselves is also crucial in this scenario too depending on the faze of life we are in, our needs and sizes shift. So if certain clothes are just not fitting correctly, it can be of great relief to acknowledge that and feel more freedom in clothes that fit your body. Remember clothes are supposed to fit you, not you fitting the clothes. Where are you spending most of your time during the day? What clothes are required for you to feel comfortable, at ease, and functional throughout your day? Do you need more tailored yet comfy clothes that can go from the office to after-school kid's sports practice? Or are you working at home wanting comfortable outfits that don't require any afterthought as you go from zoom call to an evening workout session? Knowing what your daily routine requires will help you once again buy items that you need and want.

Having items of similar style can take the guesswork or creative thinking out of what to wear daily. In addition, having repeat clothing items or styles can be incredibly helpful when we have days filled with packed schedules.

Skip Overly Trendy Items

Overly trendy items are a primary culprit when it comes to clothes ending up in landfills. Yes, a significant component in this area is fast fashion and with the rapid turnover in trends. While expressing oneself through fashion is a beautiful way to bring artistry to one's day, there are ways to do it more sustainably. For example, if you are eyeing a particular piece for an event, can you borrow the item from a friend or rent it? Since there is such a high turnover in trends in fast fashion and fashion in general, many looks are recycled from previous eras, is it possible to find something similar that is vintage or used. Many places will also rent out vintage looks, making it less of an investment and won't clog up your precious closet space.

Finding quality purchases

Now, this can sometimes translate into expensive items. Yet, this doesn't have to be the case. A great tell of a well-made garment usually can be seen from the inside out. Look at the seams; how well are they sewn, and around pockets and zippers are the seams correctly lining up? Zippers and pockets, how well are they sewn, do the zippers and buttons on these areas work smoothly? As crucial in having well-made clothes is how well we care for our clothes.

Tips For Clothes Repair And Upkeep

  • Fabric Shavers are a great way to keep sweaters fresh-looking over the years as balling up of fabric threads are a normal part of wear. Even other garments like outerwear and workout clothes can pill, yet shaving off the pills can help the clothes keep looking fresher.

  • Repair and Taylor Clothes that you love. We are fans of buying classic pieces that stand the test of time and never go out of style, while being versatile so that clothes can be worn in various ways. And as our bodies naturally fluctuate in size, having clothes like jackets, dresses, and pants tailored can usually be a cost-effective way to feel comfortable and loving your clothes without necessarily buying new pieces. Also, when it gets to be that time when the sole on your favorite boots or heels wears out, try to replace the sole instead of automatically buying new shoes. Again, replacing a part can be a cheaper option than replacing it with a new pair of shoes. Shoe repair shops can generally repair the worn-out handles or straps on your favorite purse too.

  • Youtube and Google are great resources well for everything, but if you have an odd stain from a bizarre type of oil, there are countless accounts, websites, videos, etc., that have wonderfully creative solutions. These videos have saved us from having to get rid of a favorite pair of jeans and a sweater.

Shopping

As online shopping only continues to grow, websites and apps which you can buy second hand or from local slow fashion shops have increased in options. We also find that while we prefer to shop in person, looking up what material garments are made of is more easily done online. Looking up a brand's business missions and production processes is also found more easily with online shopping.

Making educated and thought-out purchases is obviously easier when shopping online, instead of the impulse purchases we have made over the years when shopping in person. and now with so many amazing consignment shops online it has never been Easier to shop pre-loved items that are the size, brand, and style that you need.
